With a love of art leaning towards abstraction, Benjamin Owen’s pieces draw you in. From deep colors with blended curves and layering to single colors and sharp edges. Owen’s work recalls to mind master artists from the past and present – De Kooning, Van Gogh, Klimt, Picasso, Polluck, Richter and others.

Growing up with world renowned artist Doug Owen as his father, Benjamin’s love of art started at a very young age. Owen recalls traveling to art shows in wisconsin with his father at the age of 8. His fathers simple and yet powerful wooden bird sculptures at these shows, left an imprint on him that has carried over into Benjamin’s horse sculptures today. Being able to re-use a dis-regarded piece of wood from nature or man and turn it into a powerful equine form that is both beautiful and striking, has been a constant draw for Owen.

At the same time a hobby formed into love was that of sketching and doodling at a young age to experimenting with clay, and pastels. Taking a step forward Owen began using Acrylic paints and soon found another medium to express himself. His paintings are a release of built up expression and emotion that is clearly apparent on the canvas. They invite the viewer to reminisce in a fantasy where shapes and forms combine, and reality gives way to a moment of tranquility and completeness.

Benjamin Owen currently resides in Colorado near his father Doug and brother Matthew. In addition to his personal works, He enjoys working with Doug and Matthew on collaboration pieces that are in collections worldwide.
